Environmental Management
EnviroNET Australia, Environment Industry Expertise Database. Report and database for the Commonwealth Environment Protection Agency. This project provided a formal definition of environmental management, now used by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Environment Management Industry Association of Australia (EMIAA). The study also designed a survey, which was then provided to potentially suitable respondents with goods or services in environmental management. An electronic database of the collected information is now available on the Internet.
EnviroNET Australia-Environmental Education Database Update. Report and database for Environment Australia. This project updated the entries in the EnviroNET Australia-Environmental Education Database for 1997.
Management practices for the reduction of pollution from land uses within the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment. Report for the Environment Protection Authority (NSW). This report provided a detailed description of best management practices available to protect water quality from a range of land use activities, including vegetation clearing, surface disturbance, permanent road construction, access tract construction, heavy vehicle movement, trenching, waterway modification, soil stockpiles/storage areas, treatment and discharge of organic wastes, water supply/abstraction, fuel handling and storage, pesticide handling, and site rehabilitation and landscaping.
Biodiversity monitoring in Australia. Report for the Department of the Environment, Sport and Territories. This report designed and developed a comprehensive survey to determine the extent and nature of biodiversity monitoring in Australia. The information collected was analysed and summarised. The report also compiled and summarised material on the information management systems and databases used by biodiversity monitoring agencies in Australia. The project required extensive consultation with Commonwealth, State and Territory organisations.
Ecological baseline study and water quality review, Rouse Hill STP, effluent wetlands, for the Rouse Hill (Stage One) Pty Ltd. In this project Atech Group provided an overview of significant water quality issues and problems, an indication of solutions for those problems, and a proposal for a monitoring program.
Subconsultancy on Emission estimation techniques for the National Pollutant Inventory and associated community right-to-know in Australia, for Dames & Moore, and the Commonwealth EPA (now the EPG, Environment Australia). The Atech Group’s component on this report summarised emission estimation techniques (EETs) for releases from industries to the aquatic environment.
Subconsultancy on Benchmark study of existing databases on pollutants and their collection mechanisms in Australia, for Dames & Moore, and the Commonwealth EPA (now the EPG, Environment Australia). The Atech Group’s component on this report summarised existing databases on pollutants and their collection mechanisms maintained by the Commonwealth Government.
Monitoring of the environmental effects of agricultural and veterinary chemicals. Report and database for the Commonwealth Environment Protection Agency. This study provided an assessment of: Current
monitoring for the environmental impact of agricultural and veterinary
chemicals in Australia, conducted by federal, state, territory and local
governments, as well as industry and community groups.
Economic
issues such as likely costs, infrastructure needs and funding options
for monitoring work.
Consultation and cooperation requirements with governments, producers, users and the community.
Best Management Practices (BMPs) and case studies database for the management of nutrients. Database for the Department of Land and Water Conservation (NSW). This project summarised about 100 best management practices (BMPs) and 40 case studies, which have been used in Australia and overseas, to reduce the emissions of nutrients (from different land uses), into waterways. The information collected was also placed into a database.
Preliminary regulatory impact statement (RIS) on the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI). Report for the Commonwealth Environment Protection Agency. This project provided a preliminary RIS on the NPI, which has now been implemented by state, territory and Commonwealth governments. The NPI is a register of emissions from point and non-point sources, and complements load-based licensing (LBL) by state and territory governments. The report examined the costs and benefits of the proposed NPI, in terms of economic, environmental and social consequences.
Kakadu National Park Visitor Survey for 2000 – 2001. Report and database for Environment Australia. This project surveyed about 3,000 visitors to Kakadu National Park, at about 10 locations over a period of one year. It summarised the results of the survey and indicated the management implications of visitor feedback.
