This Guideline forms an addendum to an earlier guideline on environmental management of solid waste landfills. The aim in preparing the new Guideline was to maintain uniform risk and magnitudes of environmental impact for more hazardous waste.

This document evaluated a number of measures that could be promoted to reduce the numbers of waste tyres disposed both legally and illegally. The measures included industry assistance of various types (including development of markets for recycled rubber), provision of information to encourage improved maintenance of tyres (to reduce wear), and economic incentives to promote use of retreads.

The project examined possible approaches to compiling a water exchange (similar in concept to a stock exchange), that would provide an effective and efficient market for water, as well as better environmental outcomes (in terms of encouraging conservation and placing a higher value on water resources).
